Robert L. Rold, MD, 78, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2013, at St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born September 25, 1935, to the late Edward and Inez (Shrode) Rold.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1953 to 1957. His hobbies included reading history and philosophy, fishing, and he was an avid bird watcher. He was a very accomplished classical pianist and enjoyed opera.
He was a graduate of Daviess County High School and Western Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky Medical School. He practiced medicine for 40 years, and owned and operated his own private practice in Evansville for 10 years that was affiliated with St. Mary's Medical Center. He also worked for the Veterans Administration and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He was board certified in Family Practice and Geriatrics, and was published in several medical journals.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Laurel J. Rold.
He is survived by his sons, Robert E. (Durinda) Rold, of Owensboro, Ky., Michael Rold of Baton Rouge, LA, and Jonathan (Nicole) Rold of Wichita, KS; daughter, Rhonda Rhodes, of Fredericksburg, VA; grandchildren, Alexandra Rhodes, Ashley Rhodes, Brennan Rhodes, and Sophia Rold; brothers, Clyde (Dorothy) Rold, of Breckenridge Co., KY, and Dr. James (Hope) Rold, of Evansville, IN,; and sister, Martha Dowell, of Breckenridge Co.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2013, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Duane Allison, with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
