Dr. W. Murl Crowley
Dr. W. Murl Crowley, 88, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Friday, March 28, 2014 at his home.
Murl was born in Rome, Kentucky on May 25, 1925 to the late Henry Jasper and Mayme (Martin) Crowley. He graduated from Bosse High School, University of Evansville and the Ohio State University School of Optometry. Murl served in the US Army Air Corps from 1943-1945 as a B29 Radar Navigator and went on to practice optometry in Evansville from 1952-2000. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed woodworking, developing and building homes, traveling and golfing. He was also a member of the Evansville Country Club where he made many friends.
Murl is survived by his wife of 14 years, Katzie Crowley of Evansville; daughter, Lisa (Randy) Burks of Powder Springs, GA; sons, Timothy (Susan) Crowley, MD of Evansville and James (Michele) Crowley of Evansville; sisters, Mary Jane Foerster of Evansville and Bonnie Fae Ellis of Evansville; grandchildren, Evan (Jessica) Crowley, Timothy H. Crowley, Katherine Crowley, Danielle (Robby) Schultz, Megan Crowley, Derek Burks and Adam Burks; great-grandchildren, Mae Louise Crowley and Piper Crowley.
Murl is preceded in death by his parents and by his first wife, Lillian Mae.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Browning Funeral Home 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN with Pastor Gary Kornell officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery where military rites will be given by the Retired Veteran's Memorial Club.
Friends may visit from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Monday, March 31, 2014 at Browning Funeral Home and again from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home on Tuesday.
