Werner Alvin Purtzer, August 22, 1924-January 31, 2013. He was born in Spencer County Indiana, son of Alvin Purtzer & Elanora (Wittman) Purtzer. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. Werner was a mechanical engineering graduate of Evansville College in 1951. He worked for Hoosier Cardinal Corporation as a plastics engineer. He was later recognized as a pioneer in the plastic industries. After 37 years with Crescent Plastics Company he retired as Vice-President of Production in December, 1989.
On October 27, 1951 he married Lue Nettie Randolph a co-worker at Hoosier Cardinal Corporation. He is survived by his wife of 61 wonderful years; 5 daughters, Mary L. Purtzer, Nancy Purtzer, and Patty McGuire all of Evansville, Vickie Heilmann (Eric) of Newburgh, IN and Lori Purtzer of Louisville, KY; a sister, Junella Aldridge Fouch of Kokomo, IN; five grandchildren, Derek Heilmann (Jeri) of Columbus, IN, Marcie Mickel (Billy) of Evansville, IN, Nicholas Heilmann (Kristy) of Lafayette, CA, Andrew & Luke McGuire of Evansville, IN; and six great-grandchildren, Collin, Elijah, and Aspen Heilmann, Logan, Marly and Mya Joyce Mickel.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clarence (Punch) Purtzer.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, Evansville, IN, where he served in many capacities.
The family wishes to thank the staff in Unit 600, Kitchen staff and Therapy staff at River Pointe Health Campus; also all those who helped him and family at Health South and his final days with the VNA Hospice Center in Evansville. Also we are grateful for the Pastoral staff at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer for all the spiritual care during this past 5 months.
Funeral services will be 10:00AM, Monday, February 4, 2013, at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, officiated by Rev. Thomas Wenig, with burial in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Evanston, IN. Friends may visit, Sunday, February 3, 2013, from 3:00PM until 7:00PM at Alexander East Chapel and Monday from 9:00AM until service time at the church.
