W.H. "Dub" Fike, 81, passed away on March 20, 2014, surrounded by his loving family at his residence, following a long illness.
He was born June 4, 1932 in Madisonville, Ky., raised by his grandmother, Sallie Kate Downing, the son of Henry and Verner (Maxwell) Fike. Dub graduated from Evansville Central High School and joined the U.S. Army during the Korean War, stationed in Vienna, Austria. Mr. Fike attended the University of Evansville and Ball State University. Mr. Fike worked for Citizens Bank in Evansville, now Old National Bank, after the service, and then worked for 31 years at Indiana Bell, now AT&T, retiring in 1988. In 1988, he became managing partner of Atlas Collections, and retired in 2009. He was former president of Muncie Kiwanis Club, Community Foundation of Muncie-Delaware County, chairman of Ball State Center for Economic Education Advisory Committee, Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, YMCA Board of Directors, Goodwill Industries Advisory Council, Junior Achievement Fund Drive, Cardinal Varsity Club, Republican County Chairman, Mayor's Labor Management Relations Committee, and the United Way. Dub also served as Director of Muncie Federal Savings and Loan, American National Bank, and Old National Bank, Westminster Village Retirement Center, Ball Hospital Business Group, Muncie Foresight, WIPB-49, and the Downtown Business Council, President of Mitchell Elementary PTA, Friends of Bracken Library, Fellows Society and Alumni Campaign, and a deacon with First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Fike was also awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash and Horatio Alger Award, and was a Kentucky Colonel and Honorary Jaycee.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Nancy Tevault Fike; two sons, Brian Fike (wife, Brenda), Stuart Fike (wife, Trish Hoffmann Fike); a daughter, Paula Fike-Daum (husband, Mick); six grandchildren, Joshua Fike, Katie Cox (Ben), Julia Harcourt (Ben), Kayla Hoffmann, Baylee Fike, and Griffin H. Daum; three great-grandchildren, Alexa and Lillian Cox, and Charlotte Harcourt; three brothers, Leslie Fike (Delores), David Fike (Dianna), and John Chewning (Sharon); sisters-in-law, Patricia Miller and Rita Metzger; brother-in-law, John Tevault (Derethea); and several nieces and nephews.
Dub was preceded in death by his grandmother, Sallie Kate Downing; his parents; two sisters, Damer Phillips and Lucille Bullington; three brothers, Herman, U.L., and Strother Downing; mother and father-in-law, Thelma and George Tevault.
Funeral Services were held in Brownsburg, Ind., on March 24, 2014.
