Alvin Howell Obituary
The Rev. Alvin D. Howell, 77, a beloved pastor, husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Monday, June 30, 2014. Funeral: 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Thorp Springs. Interment: 3 p.m. Thursday in Greenwood Memorial Park, Fort Worth. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Martin's Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First Baptist Church of Thorp Springs, 2815 Lipan Highway, Granbury, Texas 76048. Alvin was born Aug. 12, 1936, in Pittsburg. He graduated in 1954 from Arlington Heights High School, then went to Howard Payne University and Texas Wesleyan University. He pastored several churches, including Wheatland Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Thorp Springs, and was affiliated with Martin's, Wiley's, Winscott Road, Greenwood, Mount Olivet and White's funeral homes where he delivered many comforting messages to hurting families. He brought many people back to Christ through his funeral services and led many to the Lord. He brought First Baptist Church Thorp Springs back to life from 17 people to approximately 70 when he retired due to failing health. He was relentless in his endeavor to bring people to know the Lord. Everyone who met him remembers the impact he had on their lives. He lived his life with great faith and love for people. He worked for D.K. Tool Grinding and became a part owner. He was top salesman for many manufacturers prior to starting his own company, A.D. Howell Co. He had many hobbies, loved to fish, play golf and was a devoted reader. He was a member of Pecan Golf Association, Nut Cracker Golf Association, HPU Alumni Association and Arlington Heights Alumni Association. Survivors: Wife, Brenda; sons, Mark and wife, Bobbi Howell, David Howell and Stephen and wife, Karen Howell; brother, Kenneth Howell and wife, Martha; mother of his children, Donna Howell; stepchildren, Wade Wells and Wendy Tockey; grandchildren, Blake, Jason and Lucy Howell and Adrienne and Alex Tockey; three great-grandchildren; special "cuz," Don Reed and wife, Virginia; and many, many friends.
