Retired U.S. Army Maj. Ben Wallingsford Alpuerto returned to heaven peacefully at the age of 93 at his Grand Prairie home Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013. Celebration of life: The family will celebrate the life and legacy of veteran Ben Wallingsford Alpuerto on Friday, Jan. 10, at 25 Regents Park, Bedford. For more information, contact Eric at 817-723-9469 Maj. Alpuerto was born March 21, 1920, on the island of Cebu in the Philippines. He is now reunited with his mother, Viola; father, Gabriel; brothers, Panfolio "Pilo" and Eulalio "Al"; and a son, Dennis Alpuerto. Maj. Alpuerto lived a brilliant life of honor and service to God, his country, family and community. He proudly served the U.S. Army in World War II and the Korean War, receiving numerous awards and accolades and retiring as a major. As an escaped prisoner-of-war, Ben took that perseverance and vigor to every aspect of his life as a family man, business owner, real estate agent, mentor and volunteer. Survivors: He will forever be remembered and cherished by his children, Ben Gabato Alpuerto, Ben Gabriel Alpuerto, Marla Redmond, Bruce Alpuerto, Eric Alpuerto and Sarah Alpuerto-Gonzalez; their mother, Lois Charlene Lawson Knox; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and friends the world over.
