Danny L. Swanson Obituary
Danny L. Swanson went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 3:45 p.m. at his home in Fort Worth. His wife, Connie, was right by his side. Celebration of life: 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Chapel. Interment: 9:30 a.m. Friday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Lane C. Memorials: May be made to the Humane Society or . Danny was born March 30, 1956, in Orlando, Fla., and lived in eight other cities before landing in Fort Worth. After graduation from high school, Danny joined the Air Force where he served his country as a medic for eight years. Upon his departure from the Air Force, Danny received his degree in accounting from Park College. He lived in Austin for several years and worked as an optician and later as an accountant. After moving to Fort Worth, Danny worked for Radio Shack and then for Fort Worth ISD as treasurer when he met Connie Ivy, who became his wife on July 10, 1998. Danny loved living life to the nth degree, whether it was through his work, his friendships, especially SWIM, playing soccer, looking for deals at estate sales, his love of classic cars, his dogs, his home or, of course, his family. He was a hard-working man who oftentimes went against the grain. In 1986 Danny was diagnosed with brain cancer and given no more than three years to live with conventional treatments. So, Danny went to the library (no internet then) and tirelessly researched and then proceeded to take alternative treatments for his cancer. This was also the time that Danny served on mission trips to Honduras helping fit kids with glasses. These trips were incredibly important to Danny as those children brought inspiration to his life. It wasn't until 2009 that this horrible disease returned and in 2014 finally took Danny's life. Special thanks to Vitas Hospice for your wonderful care! He was preceded in death by his mother, Jennie Soria. Survivors: Wife, Connie Ivy-Swanson; parents, Dan and Billye Swanson; mother-in-law, Marie Ivy; sisters, Becky O'Brien, Cindy Rodgers and husband, Chuck, and Kristi Young and husband, Russell; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends; and, of course, his dog, Lucy.
