Edubijes "Dubi" Sanchez Obituary
Edubijes "Dubi" Sanchez, 70, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at her home. Funeral: 11 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Rosary: 7 p.m. Thursday in Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel. Once diagnosed with end stage renal disease five years ago, Edubijes "Dubi" Sanchez never gave up. She never complained, maintaining a brave and cheerful outlook of an optimistic future even through countless dialysis treatments and numerous hospitalizations. She continued to raise her three children and six grandchildren through their daily trials and tribulations. Edubijes, known to her friends and family as Dubi, was born Feb. 7, 1942, and grew up in Fort Worth, where she attended Texas Christian University. Through her brother, Joe Flores, she met Silverio Lee Sanchez and soon after the two married in August 1961. Filled with kindness and concern for others, Dubi made friends easily and maintained contact with many. She was an ESL pre-kindergarten teacher for over 31 years. She believed in her students and always offered them amenities they might not receive at home, from meals to clothing to housing for those special children who did not have a family to turn to. She was beloved by the students whom she spent many hours teaching English, so much so that many would return after they graduated to thank her for her teachings. She was honored as teacher of the year, but her truest honor was when one of her students returned to visit her after she graduated from Harvard University. Dubi would always be available to all for any type of situation. She was the person who opened her home to everyone often inviting her children's friends, co-workers and others to celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, especially acquaintances who did not have a family who lived close to Texas during holidays. Before her illness, Dubi loved to travel to different locations from Mexico, Spain and Las Vegas, always with her loving husband, Lee, and numerous friends. She loved to garden and working in her yard was a favorite pastime. Dubi loved to laugh, and even at home during the most trying of times with her disease did she console her family with jokes and funny stories. Many did not realize Dubi was sick as she always concerned herself with others and their well being. She was very devoted to her Catholic faith and especially Santo Padre Pio. She often provided donations to various charities anonymously. She was very brave and courageous during her last days, more concerned with her family then herself. When told, "I love you," her favorite saying has always been, "I love you more!" The family would like to thank deeply the U.S. Renal Center dialysis team and Delia's Beauty Salon. Survivors: Husband of 51 years, Silverio Lee Sanchez Jr.; children, Guadalupe Rios and husband, Luis, Rebecca Ann Herberger and David Pio Sanchez; grandchildren, Felecia Lee Garrett and husband, Chauncey, Diana Ann Cortez, JohnJoseph Lee Cortez, Alex Rios, David Ryan Sanchez, Ross Adam Herberger and Reese Martin Herberger; brother, Joe Flores; sisters, Amelia Rincon and Helen Garcia; and several fond nieces and nephews.
