Gloria Ligon Obituary
Gloria F. Ligon, 85, was received into the hands of God on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, in Arlington. Service: 3 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church of Mansfield. Private interment: Will be at a later time in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 1 p.m. Monday at the church. Memorials: Those choosing to do so may make contributions to the of Fort Worth or Avalon Memory Care of Arlington. Gloria was born Oct. 2, 1928, in San Antonio to Wayne and Mary Frederick. She spent most of her childhood in the South Texas town of Goliad. She had resided in the Dallas-Fort Worth area since 1944 and retired from the Dallas Independent School District dedicating 30 years working as a teacher. As a resident of Dallas, Gloria was an active member of Glen Oaks United Methodist Church and later attended Faith Bible Church. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority at Southern Methodist University and completed her studies at the University of North Texas where she graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in education. She continued her studies earning her master's from the University of Texas at Arlington. Gloria currently resided in Mansfield and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mansfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Ligon; brother, Jim Wayne Frederick; and grandson, David M. Haydin Jr. Survivors: Children, John Ligon Jr. and wife, Susan, of Mesquite, Melinda Barry and husband, Ed, of Mansfield and Kevin Ligon of New York, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
