H.L. Youngblood Obituary
H.L. Youngblood, 79, passed away Saturday morning, July 26, 2014, surrounded by loved ones in Houston after a courageous fight against cancer. Memorial service: 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at Wiley Funeral Home. H.L. was born June 18, 1935, in Cross Plains to the late Jesse and Sadie Youngblood. After H.L. graduated from Cisco High School, he attended the University of Texas at Austin, earning a degree in petroleum engineering. In 1957, he married his high school and college sweetheart, Nixie Gregory, in Abilene. He started his career with General Portland in Houston, which was later acquired by Lafarge. H.L. served as vice president for Lafarge North America, primarily focusing on turning around struggling locations. He was well-liked and respected by all his employees at every level. Falling in love with the Morgan horse breed, H.L. and Nixie became very active in the American Morgan Horse Association and their stallion, Kendalwood N-Flation, was awarded grand champion. H.L. showed often in the classic pleasure saddle and driving events. After his retirement in 1996, H.L. and Nixie moved to Granbury to be closer to their daughters and their families. They shared 42 wonderful years together and two daughters until her passing in 1999. Sharing a love for all animals, H.L. met and married Barbara Bruce in 2010. They enjoyed art, travel and spending time with family. She brought much joy into the late years of his life. H.L. was preceded in death by his first wife; his parents; sister, Betty Youngblood Keister; and brother, Jesse Ray Youngblood. Survivors: Wife, Barbara Bruce Youngblood; daughter, Vicki Youngblood Horton; daughter, Becki Youngblood Tuley and husband, Jeff; stepdaughter, Kim Perdue and husband, Tye; sister, Kana Youngblood Burham; grandchildren, Travis Horton, Hayden Tuley, Evan Horton, Sterling Tuley, Colleen Tuley Morgan and husband, Justin, and Sidney Perdue; great-grandson, Jayden Morgan; brother-in-law, Sid Gregory and wife, Linda; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
