Harriet Wheeler Obituary
Harriet Wheeler, 97, piano teacher, passed away Friday, July 19, 2013, in Arlington. Service: Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Maria Goretti Church, 1200 South Davis Drive, Arlington. Interment: Moore Memorial Gardens. Visitation: 6 p.m. Tuesday at Moore Funeral Home with rosary starting 7 p.m. Honorary pallbearers: All of her friends at the Arlington Kiwanis Club. Memorials: Please give a donation to in lieu of flowers. Harriet Wheeler was born Dec. 4, 1915, to E. Eugene and Harriet Mead in Danbury, Conn. She was a longtime member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church and was an organist for many years at the 12:30 p.m. Sunday Mass. Her husband, Ward H. Wheeler, preceded her in death in 1989. Ward was a field service representative for Avco Lycoming, officed at Bell Helicopter Textron. She attended the University of Texas at Arlington and studied music at Texas Christian University. Harriet Wheeler was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Arlington, the Arlington Music Club, the Arlington Music Teachers Association, the American Guild of Organists (Fort Worth Chapter), the Leisure Club and the Woman's Guild of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross, a hospital volunteer Grey Lady in Bridgeport, Conn., and in Dallas. She also volunteered with the Veda Knox School and Venture School in Arlington. Survivors: She is survived by daughter, Barbara Sowell; grandchildren, Amy Lunt Leonard, David C Sowell and David J. Lunt; and great-grandchildren, Damian Sowell, Braden Sowell, Michael Steward, Ricky Steward, Eva Raney, Madeline Leonard, and Alexander Lunt.
