Jack D. West Obituary
Jack Dennis West, a retired banker, passed away May 12, 2014. He was 78. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Habitat for Humanity, CASA of Tarrant County or YMCA. Jack was born Oct. 4, 1935, in Tulsa, Okla. He was the son of Truman Clyde West of Fort Worth and Elsie Carselowey West of Adair, Okla. Jack grew up in Berkeley Place in Fort Worth and graduated from Paschal High School. He attended the University of Texas where he was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity. He graduated in 1957 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. After college, he served as a lieutenant in the United States Army in Norfolk, Va. Jack was active in many civic and philanthropic organizations such as the YMCA, Habitat for Humanity and CASA of Tarrant County. He was a devoted parishioner of Trinity Episcopal Church and served on vestry for many years. Jack's lifelong passion for running was no secret to those who knew him. Over the course of four decades, he participated in countless 5K and 10K races, and he completed three marathons. He continued to compete in races as late as 2011, when he placed first for his age group in both the 5K Turkey Trot and the 10K Cowtown Classic. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Elsie and Truman West; son, Gary Conner West; daughter, Susan Conner West; and stepdaughter, Sondra Harris. Survivors: Wife, Margie Hatcher West; brother, Dwight West and wife, Gracie; sons, Blake Conner West, Todd Conner West and wife, Laura, and William Melvin West and wife, Danna; daughter, Jillian Conner West; 11 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
