Jack Slocum Obituary
Jack Slocum, 86, passed away Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at home surrounded by his family. Memorial service: 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood. Memorials: Christ United Methodist Church, 3301 Sycamore School Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76123-3029. Jack was born in Fort Worth on Oct. 9, 1927, to Mary Edna and William C. Slocum. He graduated from Paschal High School and attended TCU. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he joined the Fort Worth Fire Department on April 1, 1951. He was very proud and honored to be a firefighter and was often heard to say he never hated or dreaded a day going to work. He retired after 33 years working at a job he loved. Jack spent his retirement years traveling, staying involved with his firefighter buddies and organizations and spending time with his family and friends. If anyone knew how to enjoy life, family and retirement, it was Jack Slocum. He was a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church and was a Mason for 60 years. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy; and his wife of 45 years, Beth. Survivors: Loving wife, Julia; daughter, Janna and husband, David; sons, Mark and wife, Charlene, and Scott and wife, Sammie; stepdaughter, Cynthia; sister, Jean Russell; brother, Robert Slocum and wife, Patsy; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
