John Felder Cullum Jr. Obituary
John Felder Cullum Jr., 88, died Thursday, July 24, 2014. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at First United Methodist Church in the chapel. Reception follows at a private home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to First United Methodist Church, 800 West 5th St., Fort Worth, Texas 76102. Johnny was born April 6, 1926, in Dallas, the son of the late John F. Cullum Sr. and Dovey Seale Cullum. He was the eldest of three brothers. His mother died when he was 12, and he worked steadily throughout his teens to help support the family. His stepmother was Rae Peters Cullum. After graduating from Adamson High School, he joined the Army in 1944 at the age of 18 following the Normandy Invasion. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and was among the Allied forces that liberated Berlin. Following the war, he served in the honor guard at Gen. George S. Patton's funeral in Luxembourg. Returning to Dallas, he attended SMU for two years on the G.I. Bill and worked as a bank teller and in retail. He also became active in Tyler Street Methodist Church, where he met Margaret Snow "Margie" Cullum, his wife of 67 years. Together they moved to Houston, where he worked as a salesman and later vice president for U.S. Rubber Company. Relocating to Fort Worth in 1969 to be closer to family, he became a tax accountant, eventually establishing his own practice. Both he and his wife were active in First United Methodist Church, where they worked in the youth division for many years. It was through his service to others that his legacy endures. He joins his wife, Margie Cullum, who preceded him in death in December 2013. Survivors: He is survived by his son, Paul Cullum; brother, Ed Cullum of Plano; brother-in-law, Harold Ray Snow of Bangs; and numerous extended family members.
