Born May 11, 1915, in Ludlow, Pa., he was the son of John Gill Sr. and Mary Radzik Gill. He married Josephine "Jo" Omasta on July 22, 1939, in Michigan. He managed stores in the grocery business for 10 years and retired from Dayton Hudson after 25 years of service selling men's clothing. He also served on the North East Tarrant County Advisory Council. For his contributions to the community, he was awarded the Outstanding Older American Award in 2007. After working with Meals on Wheels for over 18 years, he was nominated and won the 2010 American Volunteer of the year for Meals on Wheels. He loved volunteering and helping others. He was known as "High-5 John" especially with all of the children at St. John the Apostle Catholic School. He also loved spending time with his family and enjoying his hobby, horticulture.
