John Henry Juengerman Obituary
Dr. John Henry Juengerman of Euless went home to be with his Lord on Monday, Oct. 28, 2013. Memorial service: 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Philip Presbyterian Church in Hurst. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the music departments of either St. Philip Presbyterian Church, Hurst, Texas, or Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, Bedford, Texas. Dr. Juengerman was born to Harry and Nina Juengerman in Sour Lake on Dec. 16, 1928. He spent his teen and high school years in Corsicana. After serving with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Korean War, Dr. Juengerman received a B.S. in education and biology in 1955 from North Texas State University. He received his doctor of optometry in 1959 from the University of Houston and then went into practice with his father, Dr. H.A. Juengerman, in Corsicana. Dr. Juengerman specialized in behavioral optometry and was a pioneer in vision therapy. He served as secretary and president of the Heart of Texas Optometric Society and the Association of Tarrant District Optometrists. He was secretary for the DFW Metroplex Optometric Society and president of the Southwest Congress of Optometry, during which he presented a seminar on "Behavioral Optometric Treatment ..." at the Northeast Congress of Optometry in Cambridge, Mass. He was active in the Corsicana Junior Chamber of Commerce, HEB Harris Methodist Hospital Health, Future Airline Personnel of America, served as an Optometric Extension Program associate, and was a Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. He was in private practice for many years in Hurst and Allen before retiring in 2009. Dr. Juengerman was especially proud of his years of optometric missions to Honduras. John's life was filled with service to others. He was active in the Lions Club, Emmanuel Presbyterian Church and St. Phillips Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon, an elder and a member of the choir. John married his true love, Paula Jones, on Texas Independence Day, March 2, in 1957. They had two sons, Eric and Jim, with whom John was active in YMCA Indian Guides, soccer and Boy Scouts. He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Helena Fair; and daughter-in-law, Angela Juengerman. Survivors: Dr. Juengerman is survived by his wife, Paula; sons, Eric and Jim; daughter-in-law, Kate; grandchildren, Keenen, Leda, Grace and Quintin; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
