John Minor Hassler Jr. Obituary
John Minor Hassler Jr., a retired U.S. Army Reserve lieutenant colonel, died peacefully at home on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014. Service: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. His family moved to Fort Worth where he graduated from AHHS in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, then graduated from the University of Alabama in 1958. He married Lucy Savage on Dec. 14, 1957. They moved back to Fort Worth where John worked as an aeronautical engineer at Convair/General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin designing components of several generations of fighter aircraft, earning many patents and awards throughout his career. He was a member of the Dallas Boneheads, trained obedience dogs at Fort Worth Dog Training Club and enjoyed attending reunions with his AHHS and OCS classmates. John was preceded in death by his parents, Norma and John Hassler, and his brother, Robert "Bob" Hassler. Survivors: His wife of 56 years, Lucy S. Hassler; daughter, Stephanie Jeffers; son, Kenneth Hassler and wife, Donna; grandchildren, Shannon and Ian Jeffers, Joseph, Emily and Molly Hassler; many cousins, including Helen Hassler Snow and Robert Moore.
