Joseph Anderson Kemp Jr. Obituary
Joseph Anderson Kemp Jr., 84, of Grand Prairie passed away Friday, March 28, 2014. Service: The family will have a private memorial service at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood. Joe was born Feb. 12, 1930, to Joseph Anderson and Anna Elizabeth "Bess" Kemp in Austin and resided in Wichita Falls with his parents and older sister, Joanna "Jan" Kemp. Joe attended Austin public high school and graduated from Schreiner Military Institute in Kerrville. His university studies included Midwestern in Wichita Falls, University of Texas at Austin and Southwest Texas State in San Marcos. Joseph Anderson Kemp Jr. served his country in the United States Army, receiving the Korean Service Medal-Chinese Communist Force Spring Offensive. Joe retired from Six Flags Over Texas in 1994 after 26 years and many promotions, as an electrical supervisor. Joe could fix just about anything. He had a great love of the outdoors, his time at "the river" and his dogs. "I've been too busy all of my life trying not to waste any living, to have time to die." -- William Faulkner Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Anderson and Anna Elizabeth "Bess" Kemp; parental grandparents, Joseph Alexander and Flora Anderson Kemp; and maternal grandparents, George Horace Gilbert and Mabel Pumphrey Gilbert. Survivors: Sister, Joanna "Jan" Kemp Lively of Dallas; sons, Joe Kemp and wife, Rhonda, of Cross Plains, Scott Kemp and wife, Terri, of Brownwood and Tim Kemp and wife, Kim, of Tolar; and grandsons, Justin Kemp and wife, Megan, Tyler Kemp and Garret Kemp.
