Joseph Rankin

Obituary

Joseph Rankin, 89, passed away on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, in Richardson after battling several health conditions. Service: Joseph has requested that his remains be donated to science. Memorials: Please forward remembrances in the form of donations to the Benbrook Public Library, attention: Mike Baldwin, 1065 Mercedes St., Benbrook, Texas 76126. Joseph was previously a longtime resident of Benbrook. He was born in 1923 in Strattonville, Pa. He had a delightful sense of humor, and enjoyed reading immensely, and volunteering at the Benbrook Public Library. One of his favorite pastimes was fishing. He graduated from Penn State University where he earned a bachelor's degree in engineering. Joseph proudly served as a machine gun expert in the U.S. Army and in World War II, and was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1949. He was also involved in the design of the radar equipment for the B29 aircraft. Joseph worked at Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth as an engineer for about 30 years. Survivors: His son, Todd Rankin of Abilene; his brother, John Rankin of Massachusetts; his sister, Mary Lou Coleman of Florida; as well as a close family friend, Rosemary Rodriguez.
