Joseph Warren Hays Obituary
Joseph Warren Hays, at the age of 90, went to be with his heavenly Father on Father's Day, Sunday, June 15, 2014, while surrounded by his loving family. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of University Christian Church, followed by a reception. Memorials: The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be given in the name of Joseph Hays to his favorite charities: American Red Cross, CAF Red Tail Squadron at redtail.org or Greenpeace. Joe loved Fort Worth and often referred to himself as a "South Side boy." He had many stories that he would tell about his friends and of growing up in Fort Worth. Joe was born June 13, 1924, in Bowie to Edgar Allen Hays and Sarah Louisa Perdue Hays. In 1926 Joe and his family moved to Fort Worth where he attended Paschal (Central) High School and later graduated from Texas Christian University in 1948. His formal education was interrupted by World War II, where he served his country in the Army Air Corps as a co-pilot of a B-24 with the 8th Air Force, 2nd Air Division, 446th Bombardment Group. After the war, Joe met and married Gloria Colbert at Magnolia Avenue Christian Church. Joe and Gloria celebrated 60 years of marriage before her passing. They had two children, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Joe became reacquainted with a longtime friend, Roxy Credit, and they were married Feb. 10, 2010. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Clarence Hays; and his two sisters, Ruth Hays Goff and Iris Hays Cole. Survivors: Wife, Roxy; his son, Warren R. Hays (Shelley); daughter, Carolyn Hays Johnson; grandchildren, Jared Hays (Crystal), Andrew Hays (Maria), Scott Hays (Lyndsie), Christopher Johnson (Bryan) and Amelia Johnson Heise (Jacob); and great-grandchildren, Jackson, Lila and Cameron.
