Judith Lee Jackson "J.J." Epker Obituary
Judith Lee Jackson "JJ" Epker, 71, died Saturday, June 14, 2014, at her home in Alvarado. Memorials: May be made to the North Texas Food Bank. JJ was born in Canada, the daughter of George Jackson and Isabel Hazen Jackson. She graduated from Port Huron High School in Michigan and completed nursing school at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. She later attended the University of Texas at Dallas where she earned a master's degree in computer programming. She worked as a computer programmer for 30 years and was one of few experts in the COBOL language. She had a love for teaching and taught computer programming courses at several local colleges and universities. After a successful and fulfilling career, she retired to a life in the country and her dream home in Alvarado. JJ was an avid reader who regularly read one to two books a day. She loved going to the beach, playing backgammon and spending time with family and friends. She could often be found on her front porch reading or watching cardinals and other inhabitants of her land. JJ was known for her gregarious personality and infectious laughter. Survivors: She is loved and will be missed by her sons, Jake Epker(Melissa) and Justin Epker (Angie); grandchildren, Noah, Evie and Abigail Epker; siblings, Barbara "Babs" Guthrie, Brian Jackson (Linda) and Bruce Jackson (Tobi); nieces and nephews; and many longtime friends.
