Louise Oliver Obituary
The Rev. Louise Brown Oliver, 91, joined our Father in heaven Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, on her 91st birthday. Memorial service: 10 a.m. Saturday at University Christian Church, 2720 S. University Drive, Fort Worth. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to WestAID, South Central Alliance of Churches or CROP/CWS in care of University Christian Church, 2720 S. University Drive, Fort Worth, Texas 76109. Originally from New Hampshire, Louise earned a BA in economics at Louisiana State University and an MA degree at Boston University. In Boston, she met her lifetime soulmate, Robert "Bob" N. Oliver, whom she married in 1948 and traveled to Fort Worth where Bob worked at General Dynamics. At Brite/TCU, she earned a master of divinity degree and was ordained as a minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at age 56 after raising four children, Laurence, Joan, Rob and Marion. Louise had a remarkable compassion and concern for those in need and for decades devoted her energies to numerous volunteer endeavors, including co-founder of WestAID, food bank and community assistance center; president, South Central Alliance of Churches, food pantry, clothing and financial assistance; led Fort Worth CROP/Church World Service walk for hunger awareness for 20-plus years; chaplain, prison ministry at Federal Correctional Institute, Fort Worth; chaplain, prison re-entry Halfway House; All Church Home for Children, youth services, Safe Place; Church Women United, Christian ecumenical organization; University Christian Church, community outreach, hospital, nursing home visitation, communion; and elder at University Christian Church and member of Rose Circle. Survivors: Husband, Robert Oliver; sister, Evelyn Johnson; son, Laurence Oliver and wife, Patty; daughter, Joan and husband, Bruce Mackay; son, Rob Oliver and wife, Debbie; daughter, Marion and husband, Kent Smith; grandchildren, James, Anna, Holly, Jason, Sarah, Shannon, Nathan, Brittany, Kelsey, Preston, Cooper, KK, Clay and Madison; great-grandson, Simon; sister-in-law, Jane Lindsey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
