Mackin Henry Withers Obituary
Mackin Henry Withers, 91, who resided in Lakeside Village on Lake Whitney, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at his residence. Funeral: 1 p.m. Friday at Kopperl United Methodist Church in Kopperl. Interment: 3:30 p.m. Friday in Pleasant Point Cemetery near Lillian. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kopperl United Methodist Church, Box 39, Kopperl, Texas 76652. Mr. Withers was born May 13, 1922, in Lillian, a son of Richard C. and Ruby Mackin Withers. He was raised in Lillian and graduated from Alvarado High School in 1939 and then attended college for two years. In 1943 he was drafted into the United States Army. He proudly served his country during the Asiatic-Pacific campaign and was awarded a Bronze Star and a World War II Medal for his service. Mr. Withers was honorably discharged as staff sergeant in 1946 and settled in Mansfield, where he owned and operated a grocery store business. In 1962 he retired from the grocery store business and moved to Morgan. He began his ranching career and still had cattle at the time of his death. On June 6, 1981, Mr. Withers married Bonnie Harrison in Mansfield, and they made their home in Lakeside Village. Mackin took the time to know people as individuals and to show them how much he cared about them. He knew and loved his cattle in the same way and had them all eating out of his hands. He will be missed by all. Survivors: Wife, Bonnie Withers of Lakeside Village; son, Scott Withers of Grapevine; daughter, Lisa Fallon of Austin; stepson, John Harmon; five grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and sister, Sue Leonard of Houston.
