Matilda Jane Metz McDonald Obituary
Matilda "Tillie" Jane Metz McDonald passed away at the age of 78 in Arlington. She was surrounded by family at the time of her death Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013. Service: Please join us in celebrating Tillie's life at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, 313 N. Center, Arlington. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the UTA Campus Cat Coalition, Box 191040, Arlington, Texas 76019,, or Community Hospice of Texas, Arlington Memorial, 6100 Western Place, Suite 500, Fort Worth, Texas 76107, and designate the inpatient hospice unit. On May 7, 1935, Tillie was born in Stamford to Dr. Louis and Helen Darr Metz. Tillie graduated from Stamford High School in 1953, the University of Texas at Austin, B.A., and UTMB at Galveston, ACSP-MT. Tillie was a lifetime member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She worked at Alcon Laboratories as a research scientist from 1983 to 2000. Tillie lived in various places in the U.S., during which the door to her home was always open to graduate students, professors, friends, her children's friends and friends of friends, many of whom were "adopted" for holiday meals and for short periods of time. Starting at a young age, Tillie was an avid sports enthusiast as her girls participated in many sports, including long hours as a swimming referee and volleyball "cheerleader" for Arlington High School, UTA and Texas Wesleyan. Tillie was very involved with her longtime friends through her sorority and the Stamford reunions. The family would like to thank the THR Arlington Memorial Hospital staff and inpatient hospice staff for their commitment to caring for her during the last couple of months. Survivors: Her daughters and their father, Kathy McDonald (Leo Wesley), Judy Brown (Greg), Susan McDonald (Kim Briscoe), Laura Trevor-Wilson (Kevin) and Dr. William Charles McDonald; grandchildren, John, Rachel, Katherine, George, William, Corey and Cole; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Kain and Jameson; sister, Judy Metz Jackson (Bill); nieces and nephews, Corinne Fivekiller, David Gillick, Sharon Miller, Danny Gillick, Jennifer Balido and Stephanie Spillane; and cousins, Bill and Jack Darr.
