Melvin L. Lewis Obituary
Melvin L. Lewis, 92, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014. Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the or . Melvin was born June 25, 1922, in Wizard Wells to Roy Roberson Lewis and Mary Culverhouse Lewis. He graduated from Park Springs High School in 1940. He worked at Consolidated Vultee in San Diego, Calif., before joining the Navy in April, 1944 during World War II. After serving on the aircraft carrier USS Kula Gulf during the war, he worked at Convair which became General Dynamics until retiring in 1986. Melvin was married to Margaret Johnson Lewis for 60 years. He was an extraordinary man that was considered a Dad to more than just his own children. In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering around the house, working in the yard, repairing most anything and was also an accomplished homebuilder. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and many brothers and sisters. Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; brother, Clarence Lewis; sister, Audie Lewis Greene; and son-in-law, Donald A. Graham. Survivors: Daughter, Marilyn Lewis Graham; son, Mark Lewis; grandchildren, Lauren Graham Kilpatrick, Ryan Graham and Brent Lewis; brothers, Aubrey, Lee Roy and Wade Lewis; sisters, June Navratil, Marjorie Mauldin and Lavena Spradley; and many nieces and nephews that were dear to him. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
