Phyllis Branicki Orlow passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday morning, Jan. 2, 2014, during her 89th year, after a brief illness. Service: Funeral arrangements are pending in New York. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the or a . A Holocaust survivor, Phyllis was born in Lodz, Poland, the daughter of Emmanuel and Mala Branicki. She was liberated in 1945 when she met her husband, Jack Orlow. Together, they came to the United States in 1949 and settled in New York. Phyllis enjoyed spending summers with her friends and family in the Catskill Mountains. She was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society, enjoyed playing mahjongg, cards and traveling. She was a dedicated wife and mother and loved more than anything else to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Her family wishes to express a special thank-you to Ester Torres, her caretaker, and the wonderful nursing staff at Vitas-Baylor All Saints Medical Center. Survivors: In addition to her son, Dr. Harold Orlow and wife, Eileen of Stamford, Conn., Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Hochberger McGee and husband, Larry, of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Jason Orlow, Alyssa Orlow, Amy Hochberger, Dr. Sari Bar and husband, Mickey; sister, Rose Brewster and husband, Henry, of Bayside, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
