Pilar Pena Obituary
Pilar Pena, 78, a wonderful husband, father and "Abuelo" to his grandsons, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, while surrounded by his loving family in his home. Services and viewing: Visitation 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in Laurel Land Memorial Chapel, 7100 Crowley Road, 76134, with rosary at 7 p.m. Service on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 5160 Pershing Ave., 76107. Interment: Thursday at 2 p.m. Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas. Pilar was born in San Antonio on July 30, 1935. He was involved in the Korean War during his U.S. military service while enlisted in the Army and Air Force. Following his military career, he attended college and received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University in 1964. Pilar and his late wife, Irma, then moved and settled in Fort Worth after graduation where he assumed a position with the U.S Army Corps of Engineers as a professional engineer. He retired in 1992 and enjoyed golf, baseball games with his family and favorite activity, watching his two grandsons at play. Pilar was very active in the community and church, serving on several committees such as LULAC, SHPE and the city of Fort Worth while helping young underprivileged adults achieve a higher quality of education. He received numerous awards for his many accomplishments and highly recognized by the Toastmasters as an outstanding public speaker. Pilar was known by those close to him as a very compassionate and loving individual with a great sense of humor. Survivors: Son, Robert Pena and wife, Tara; beautiful grandsons, Lorne Alexander and Morgan Anthony Pena; sister, Ruth Hensely of San Angelo; compadres, Dennis and Norma Bonewitz: and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
