R. Virgil Baker Obituary
Raymond Virgil Baker, 88, peacefully passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2013, with family by his side. Service: 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel with interment to follow in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: Begins at 10:30 a.m. Virgil,"Butch," was born June 23, 1925, in Bellingham, Minn., the son of Raymond Vaupel Baker and Ida Mae Sorteberg Baker. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II and in the Sioux Falls Fire Department for three years. Virgil retired as a small-business owner in the trucking industry, working in both South Dakota and Texas. After retirement, he enjoyed fishing and traveling extensively throughout the U.S. with his wife, Violet. Virgil was a loving husband, a good father and a man of great faith. Virgil and his family were members of Peace Lutheran Church for over 45 years. He was preceded in death by, his parents; older brother, Kenneth Baker; and infant daughter, Deborah Lee. Survivors: Virgil will be remembered by his loving wife of 66 years, Violet; children, Linnea Baker, Sandra Ware, Paul Baker, Mary Kress, Eric Baker, their spouses, and 27 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Leslie Baker and David Baker; sisters, Eunice Buckley, Joyce Monger, Barbara Galland and Dorothy Farquhar.
