Robert "Bob" Carter Benton, a retired office manager and cowboy, passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012. Service: 3 p.m. Wednesday at Burleson Church of Christ. Interment: Burleson Memorial Park. Visitation: 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Burleson Church of Christ Building Fund, 1150 NW John Jones Drive, Burleson, Texas 76028, or Meals on Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties, 106 E. Kilpatrick, Cleburne, Texas 76031. Bob was born Jan. 1, 1921, to Hubert and Wilma Benton in Truby. He graduated from Anson High School. Bob Served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. In 1945, he married Doris White. After the war, he worked for over 40 years at O'Grady Plumbing Co. He married Betty Jo Hatler in 1981. After retirement from O'Grady's, he worked with Jo at Fincher's Western Store. Bob's true passion was with horses. He was an excellent horseman and horse trainer. He rode horses for almost 80 years. He was a member of the Cowtown Posse Riding Club and the Tarrant County Sheriff's Posse. Bob was a quiet man with a gentle spirit and always had a hug and kiss for the ladies in his life. A special thanks to caregivers Glenda and Don Kennedy and Faye Rasco, and Ginger and Grace with Community Hospice. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo; his parents; siblings, Dorothy Yates, Mary Jo Roe and Henry Benton; infant twin daughters, Darla and Donna; and their mother, Doris Benton. Survivors: He is survived by her daughter, Dana Shipp and husband, Gary; stepdaughter, Kay Robertson and husband, Bobby; adopted son, Buddy Chapman; grandchildren, Colleen Harp (Jerry), JoLynn Chapman (Richard) and Grant Shipp (Perla); great-grandchildren, Izabella, Garrett, Mason and Greg; and nephews and nieces whom he adored.
