Robert O. Hinds Obituary
Robert O. Hinds, 90, passed away Monday, Aug. 11, 2014. Funeral: Requiem Mass at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Episcopal Church. The Rev. Carlye Hughes will officiate. Private interment in Acton Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a reception at the church following the service. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory be given to Texas A&M University. Bob Hinds was born in Friendship community on March 31, 1924, son of the late Rollin Oscar and Ruby Estil Falkenbury Hinds, and grew up in Cleburne. He graduated from Texas A&M University, class of 1944. He took time off from his studies to enlist in the U.S. Army Air Corps after receiving his mother's "permission" since he was only 17. He was a combat pilot during World War II flying B-26 Marauders. After the war, he returned to A&M to complete his degree. He started his career in Hillsboro, as a Texas Highway engineer, and it was there he met his future wife, Helen Jaye Howard. They were married in Wharton on Dec. 23, 1949, and were married for 64 years. Bob came to Fort Worth as a professional engineer to do the dirt work for Seminary South (Gran Plaza). His friends and colleagues know him best for his many years with Brown & Blakney Construction Co., where he continued to build roads, bridges and levees in and around Fort Worth. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved brother, John Terrell Hinds. Survivors: His wife of 64 years, Helen; children, Alice "Ande" Hinds Johnston, Mari Hinds Tutt, Jayne Hinds Bidaut; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Joan Hinds; and nephews and nieces.
