Robert William Poindexter Obituary
Robert William Poindexter, born June 12, 1924, in Houston, preceded in death by his parents, Judge William and Francis Poindexter, and sister, Vera Parish, passed away Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013. Funeral: Military funeral at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston. Celebration of life: 2 p.m. at Galveston Country Club. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Wounded Warriors Project, 855.GIVE.WWP. Robert "Bob" W. Poindexter served his country bravely and heroically during World War II and Korean War as a P-47 fighter pilot and as a fuel supply officer during the Vietnam War. Lt. Col. Poindexter served 33 years in the Air Force. He retired with an honorable discharge in 1976 and moved to Galveston. He was district manager for Teleprompter Cable Network and served as a city councilman for the city of Jamaica Beach. He recently moved to Fort Worth to be close to family. He was active in the Galveston Rotary Club, Propeller Club, Galveston Retired Officer Association, Galveston Country Club, Lake Como Board of Directors, and World War II 347th Squadron. Bob was fiercely patriotic and loyal to family and friends. Survivors: Robert W. Poindexter is survived by his wife, Patricia Crow Poindexter; daughter and husband, Hally and Jeff Toia of Morristown, N.J.; daughter, Pam Poindexter of Chicago, Ill.; stepdaughters and husbands, Holly and Reid Stephens and Mary Kaye and John Washo, all of Fort Worth; and stepdaughter and husband, Patricia and Ragnvald Gabrielsen of Oslo, Norway. Bob was blessed with nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Bob was well respected and loved by many friends in the Galveston and Fort Worth communities as well as the members of the World War II 347th Squadron.
