Ronald Bryan Etheredge died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on Friday afternoon, May 2, 2014, after a courageous and well-fought, eight-month battle with lung cancer. Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, May 9, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Private interment in Greenwood Memorial Park. His family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home. Memorials: Gifts in Ronnie's memory may be made to The St. Vincent DePaul Society of Holy Family Church, 6150 Pershing Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76107 or through a generous blood donation to Carter Blood Center. Ronnie Etheredge was born on July 18, 1936, in Lamesa to J. B. Etheredge and Edna Merle Parks Etheredge. He was raised in Odessa and graduated in 1955 from Odessa High School. He served eight years in the Marine Corps Reserve after high school. He graduated with the class of 1960 from Texas Christian University and was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Ronnie was a good and faithful husband, and a great father and grandfather. He had a huge heart and was always drawn to the underdog, helping others out in times of need. Just three years ago, he drove a dying friend from Fort Worth to Utah so that William could die with his daughters who were the only family the man had left. Ronnie donated blood religiously to Carter Blood Center. He was an avid golfer and had been a member of Pecan Plantation and a current member of The Nutcracker in Granbury. He will be remembered as a loyal friend, with a big, generous heart by the people who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Darlene. Survivors: His wife of 50 years, Pat Etheredge; daughter, Carla Keaton and her husband, Doyen, and their sons, Noah and Elijah; son, Eric Etheredge and his sons, Chandler and Colby; daughter, Elizabeth Ruiz and her husband, James, and their daughters, Lauren, Emily, and Trinity; son, John Etheredge and his wife, Hollie, and her children, AJ and Julia; his brother, John Etheredge of San Antonio and his sons, Shaun and Marty.
