Roscoe Lycurgus Van Zandt II Obituary
Dr. Roscoe Lycurgus Van Zandt II, 77, of Dallas peacefully passed at home with his family on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014. Celebration of life: 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 7, at D'Vine Wine, 409 S. Main St., Grapevine, 76051, 817-329-1011. Memorials: Roscoe requested, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Texas A&M University at: https://www.aggie network.com/ give/memorial giving/ in memory of his name, class of '58. Roscoe was born Sept. 21, 1936, in Fort Worth to Roscoe Lycurgus Van Zandt and Loretta Burger Van Zandt. Roscoe graduated from Jesuit High School, La., in 1954. He completed undergraduate at Texas A&M, 1957, LSU School of Medicine, 1961, and his internship/residency in 1965 at Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas. Following U.S. Army military service in Colorado he began private practice in Arlington. Roscoe was an accomplished golfer, commercial single/multi-engine pilot, historian and Aggies sport enthusiast. He extensively traveled the world studying medicine of other cultures. Until passing, he never ceased his passion pursuing healing to help others, but his proudest achievements were his children and grandchildren. Survivors: Roscoe is survived by daughter, Nicole Van Zandt Scherer; son, Roscoe Lycurgus Van Zandt III; grandson, Brian Murray Scherer; grandson, Callan James Scherer; granddaughter, Karis Leah Scherer; brother, James Burger Van Zandt; sister-in-law, Patricia Van Zandt; nieces, Jawana Van Zandt Coleman and Jody Van Zandt Fulton; and nephew, James Burger Van Zandt Jr.
