Roy C. Chaney Obituary
Dr. Roy C. Chaney, 70, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at his home. Service: Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Cathedral, 1206 Throckmorton St., Fort Worth. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park, 3100 White Settlement Road, Fort Worth. Visitation: 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mark Catholic Church, 1105 W. 15th St., Plano, where a vigil service will begin at 5:30 p.m. Memorials: Gifts in his memory may be made to , 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105. Dr. Chaney was born Sept. 20, 1943, in Beaumont to Preston E. and Imogene E. Chaney. Roy graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1961 and attended the University of Oklahoma where he graduated with a degree in physics. He then attended the University of Wisconsin where he was awarded a doctor of philosophy degree in physics. Following graduation Roy joined the faculty of the University of Texas at Dallas, where he taught graduate-level physics and computer science until his retirement in 2012. He was a diligent researcher and authored many papers in the fields of computer science and molecular spectra, and developed systems for NASA's Mars Rover Project. Roy was accepted into the Catholic Church in 1992 by Father Anthony Pondant. He sang in the choir at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wylie for many years where he was a cantor and trained altar servers at St. Mark Catholic Church in Plano for five years, where he attended daily Mass. Survivors: His wife of 32 years, Judith Hood Chaney; sons, William Chaney and wife, Lori, Robert Chaney and wife, Lisa, Thomas Chaney, David Hood and Blake Hood and wife, Susan; nine grandchildren; brother, Preston E. Chaney Jr. and wife, Mary Helen; sister, Mary Jean Hayes and husband, John; Loretta Chaney, mother of William and Robert Chaney; and extended family members.
