On Saturday, May 3, 2014, retired U.S. Air Force Maj. Thomas Coleman Freund "slipped the surly bonds of earth-put out his hand, and touched the face of God." Memorial service: in Tom's honor will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, in DFW National Cemetery, followed by a celebration of his life at his and Joanna's home in Fort Worth. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest a donation to the Foundation for PSP at CurePSP.org. Thomas was born Oct. 24, 1930, in Crenshaw, Miss. One of 13 children, he has now been reunited with nine of his brothers and sisters. Tom lived a long and joyful life. He loved to travel and entertain. He especially enjoyed being surrounded by family and numerous friends at his home on the lake. Tom's military service included four years in the Navy during the Korean War followed by 21 years in the Air Force where he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross as an F-4 fighter pilot during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Air Force in 1976, Tom earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from Texas Commerce University and began a new career as a flight instructor for American Airlines. Tom married Joanna Green on March 28, 1954. Survivors: His wife, Joanna; his children, Charles Alan Freund, Susan Kim Strode, Linda Gail Bull and Wendy Kyle Elizardo, and their spouses, Valerie Freund, Ronny Strode, Alan Bull and Eddie Elizardo; his grandchildren, Kellen Freund, Parker and Lane Strode, and Stefan and Gianna Elizardo; his sisters, Edna Upchurch, Ann Burns and Elizabeth Beland; sister-in-law, Rose Green; and numerous nieces and nephews.
