Vernon Martin Gilmore Obituary
Vernon Martin Gilmore, 84, passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Graveside service: 10 a.m. Friday in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Vernon was born Oct. 4, 1928, in Clovis, N.M., to Osmond and Ella May Rosamond Gilmore. After his father died in 1935, Vernon and his three siblings and mother relocated to Fort Worth where he grew up, married and raised five children. Vernon drove a city bus for several years, then worked for five years as a Fort Worth police officer before beginning a career as a casualty insurance underwriter. After retiring from the insurance business, he became a bus driver with the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District where he worked for 18 years before retiring again. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Margaret Summers Gilmore and JoAnn Vermillion Gilmore; brother, Vardaman Gilmore; and granddaughter, Natalie Jones. Survivors: Brother, Gordon Gilmore of Joshua; sister, Esmond Hart of Mesa, Wash.; son, Vernon Gilmore Jr. and wife, Cindy, of Euless; daughters, Latricia Hammonds of Whitehouse, Teresa Marshall of Tyler, Carolyn Grant of Dallas and Jere Lee of Haltom City; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
