Video Memory
William Robert "Bill" Heyduck passed away Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, in Arlington. Funeral: 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Barnabas United Methodist Church, Arlington. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Moore Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Barnabas United Methodist Church to the Scholarship Fund or the Open Arms Clinic. Bill was born Dec. 3, 1934, in Centralia, Ill. After graduating from Centralia High School, Kaskaskia Junior College and the University of Illinois, Bill served as an engineer in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, picking up an additional degree at the Navy Postgraduate School along the way. After serving aboard the USS Cunningham, USS Uhlmann and the USS St. Paul, his shore duty postings took him to both the east and west coasts of the U.S. as well as Japan and South Korea. After retiring from the Navy in 1977, he worked as a safety engineer for Texas Employers Insurance and later the Odyssey Group, living in Shenandoah, Austin and, since 1988, Arlington. Bill led a quiet life centered on his family and community, particularly through the church, most recently St. Barnabas, where he was an active leader for many years. He took Jesus' command to love God and to love his neighbor seriously. He leaves a legacy of commitment and generosity. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Hazel Heyduck; and siblings, Maurice, Dean and Wahneta. Survivors: His wife of almost 54 years, Mary Franklin Heyduck; sons, Richard and wife, Christi, of Pittsburg, Steve and wife, Rachel, of Hurst and Robert of Mora, N.M.; grandchildren, Emily, Paul, Hannah, Robbie, Eliza and Liam Heyduck; sister, Arline Geary; brother, Charles Heyduck; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
