William "Fritz" Smarz III Obituary
Fritz Smarz, 60, beloved spouse, daddy, Pop/Pawpaw, son, brother, uncle, friend and avid fisherman, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at a Fort Worth hospital. Celebration of life: Please join his family in celebrating his life at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, at St. Barnabas the Apostle, 8425 Parkwood Hill Blvd., Fort Worth, 76137. This is not goodbye, just see you later... After graduation from Diamond Hill High School in 1972, Fritz went on to work in the computer industry before receiving his degree in psychology from the University of Texas at Arlington. Because of his great love of learning, he returned to school later in life to pursue a degree in nursing. He made hospice his passion, a bond he and his daughter, Lindsey, shared. Beneath his rugged exterior, his gentle heart was filled with kindness and joy for anyone in his path. He gave much more than he took and lived for those he loved. Those he leaves behind will miss his smile, laugh and playful spirit greatly. Fritz's happiest moments were spent out on the lake, rod and reel in hand, or in the kitchen cooking some of the best food his family has ever had. His lessons on "How to cut a chicken" or "How to chop an onion" are as legendary as is the barbecue and fried fish he was known for. There are no words to describe how much he will be missed. Special thank-you to the staff of THR Harris Methodist Fort Worth and the Cardiovascular and Medical-Surgical Intensive Care units and the doctors of Texas Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine for their overwhelming love and support. He was preceded in death by his son, Fritz Ryan Smarz. Survivors: His spouse, Cherie Honish; daughter, granddaughter and son-in-law, Lindsey Smarz, Olivia Grace Vasquez and Steven Vasquez; parents, Bill and Betty Smarz; sisters, Diann Smarz, Terry Melaun and Cynthia Jones; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Tia and Kelly Devoll and their children, Samantha and Jessie; stepdaughter, Keefer Barlow and her daughter, Mikayla; stepdaughter, Sara Tipton and her children, Noble, Phoebe, Matthew and Abigail; and stepdaughter, Erin Brown and her children, Brittyn and Ryan. Additionally, his lifelong friend of 43 years, Donald "Donnie" Collins joins nieces, nephews, neighbors, colleagues and others in saying farewell to their cherished friend.
