BALDWYN – Mr. Vaughn S. Michael, 93, born March 1, 1921, to Hugh Miller Michael and Amanda Searcy Michael, died September 1, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice after an extended illness. Mr. Michael was a U.S. Army veteran having served his country in World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal. He loved God and never missed church as long as he was able to go. He loved the outdoors, making people laugh, and playing his guitar. He was loved by many. He was a former employee of Natchez Trace and a member of South Prentiss Baptist Church.
Services will be Thursday, Sept. 4, at 2 p.m. at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. Dan Mobley, Bro. Jeremy Johnson and Bro. Bill Adams officiating. Burial will be in the East Mt. Zion Cemetery.
He leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Louise Michael of Baldwyn; son, Danny Michael (Debra) of Baldwyn; two daughters, Amanda Michael of Guntown and Kathy Michael of Guntown; seven grandchildren,Michael Calhoun (Holly) of Waterford, Vonda Whitt of Guntown, Melissa Hester (Marcus) of Tupelo, Jamie Whitt (Dariel) of San Antonio, Texas, Marty Michael, Tonya Joslin (Bobby),and Alison MIchael; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and his caregiver, Glenda Russell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, Annie ""Bill"" Michael Barnett, H.C. Michael, Evelyn Franks, Link Michael,Phillip ""Coot"" Michael and Henry ""Boots"" Michael.
Pallbearers will be Gregg Johnson, Junior Smith, Bill Williams, Johnny Glenn, Ted Ryan and Jonathan Michael.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Waters Funeral Home.
