Elsie Mai Gannon Stem, age 86, died Thursday, November 21, 2013. Mrs. Stem was a native of Cannon County and was the daughter of the late Earl and Beulah Rollins Gannon.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Willie G. Stem, Jr., who died January 1, 2012.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, at Franklin Road Baptist Church. Pastor Mike Norris will officiate. Burial will be in the Whitworth Cemetery.
Mrs. Stem is survived by two sons, Alan R. Stem and his wife Cathy of Lascassas, and Randall Stem and his wife Kathy of Murfreesboro; two daughters, Gayle S. Emery and her husband George of Beechgrove, and Kaye Weed of Murfreesboro; four brothers, Charles H. Gannon and James E. Gannon, both of Murfreesboro, Wayne and Stanley C. Gannon, both of Kittrell; two sisters, Geneva Black of Walter Hill and Mildred Black of Murfreesboro; twelve grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Stem was a member of Franklin Road Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for more than 30 years. She was member and past president of Murfreesboro Garden Club, Murfreesboro Art League, American Legion, member and past president of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and served as an active volunteer at the Tennessee Veteran's Home. For many years, she and her late husband coordinated the Veteran's Day Memorial Service on the Murfreesboro public square.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Saturday, at the Franklin Road Baptist Church. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers.
