Rev. George K. Jones

Rev. George K. Jones, age 81, died Thursday, April 17, 2014 at St. Thomas Rutherford hospital.

He was a native of Montrose, MS and was the son of the late George Hawkins and Jessie Cox Jones.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church. Dr. Craig Goff, Dr. Jim Clardy and Dr. LeNoir Culbertson will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Rev. Jones is survived by his wife, Valera Bailey Jones; sons, William Kenneth Jones and his wife Vicky Fitzgerald of Murfreesboro, George H. Jones and his wife Sallie of Rocky Face, GA; daughter, Valera Susan Jones of Decatur, GA; brothers, William B. Jones of Georgetown, TX, R. Lanier Jones of Fernandina Beach, FL and Lowell Jones of Lookout Mountain, GA; sister, Sarah Jones of Macon, GA; and grandchildren, Ezra, Maria, Kathleen, Amanda and Mary Jones.

Rev. Jones was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church. He was a retired Methodist minister and had served churches in Middle Tennessee for more than 50 years. He earned his undergraduate degree from Millsaps College in Jackson, MS and his Bachelor of Divinity from Vanderbilt University.

Pallbearers will be William Ivie, Gary Whaley, Larry Ward, Carol Bond, Wayne Alderman, Peter Pressman, Bishop William Morris, Jan Dodson, Lyn Newman, Bill Barnes, Robert Spann, and Rev. Jones' Grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearers will be Omri Rawlins, Wayne Love, J.O. Gist, Herman Johnson, Matt and Maxine Henderson, Gwen Spann, Tom Gray, the staff and volunteers of St. Mark's, the Discussion Sunday School class, Ministers and spouses of Tennessee Conference of United Methodist Church; and the Friends at Kangaroo.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.
