Wayne Hopkins Robinson completed his mortal probation and was called home on July 10, 2013 from the arms of his eternal sweetheart in Kanab, Utah. He was born in Glendale, Utah on December 25, 1935 to Malcolm Little and Ann Rita Hopkins Robinson. He married Nanell Glazier on April 1, 1960 in the St. George Temple. Their children are Jeffrey Wayne, Brent Glazier, Lori (deceased), Melani Torgersen and Darin Heber, nineteen grandchildren and two and a half great-grandchildren.
Except for a few years, Dad spent his life in Kane County. He served in the Western Canadian mission from 1956 to 1958 and from that experience developed a lifelong love of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the scriptures. He graduated from the College of Southern Utah in Cedar City and USU in Logan with a degree in education. He taught at Kanab High School for twenty one years. Dad was an educator who had high expectations of his students, but had a soft heart under a tough exterior for anyone who would do their best, even if they came up short of the mark. For many students, Wayne R. was one who made a difference in their lives.
Wayne was given the opportunity to serve in many positions in the LDS church including three times as Bishop. He was released as the Bishop of his beloved Kanab 5th Ward on June 9, 2013. He and Mom served in the Russia Moscow South Mission from 2000 to 2002. The experiences they had and the friendships they made there were some of the closest they have ever had.
Besides being a teacher, Dad was an equipment operator, truck driver, farmer, rancher and mechanic. Dad enjoyed seeing new places and spent many years driving truck all over North America. He and Brent were traveling partners from Canada and Alaska to the Mexico border. Two days before his passing he spent the day with Brent and had one last time running the loader.
Even though we all knew Dad was strong willed, we got to see his true strength over the last seven months as he endured multiple health challenges. He will be remembered by his family for jeep rides and hunting trips, biology and math tutoring, and looking for "junk". Each one of the grandkids thought they were his favorite because of the one-on-one time he spent with them. He is our example of service and love. Dad maintained his independent spirit right to the end and didn't want help if he could do it himself. Mom has been his "Angel" and earned her second set of wings as she attended to his needs the last few months. Her faithful assistant angel through all the travel and treatments has been her youngest brother Greg Glazier. We can't thank you enough for the help and entertainment you gave Mom and Dad.
Wayne is survived by his wife Nanell; children Jeffrey (Paula), Brent (Lynette), Melani (Alan) Torgersen and Darin (Megan); 19 grandchildren and 2 & ½ great-grandchildren; and siblings George (Geri) Robinson, Clorus Jensen, LaRue (Cloyd) Chamberlain, Ilena (Dale) Holyoak, Farris (Ron) Tew, and Errol (Marcelene) Robinson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Drew Robinson, and daughter Lori Robinson.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 15, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Kanab Utah Stake Center. There will be a viewing Sunday evening from 7:00-8:00 PM at the Stake Center and Monday morning from 10:00-10:45 AM at the Stake Center. Burial will be in the Kanab Cemetery. Arrangements were made with Mosdell Mortuary.
