Charles Everett McCoy, Sr., 79, South Mills, died Saturday, May 3, 2014 at his residence. Born in Camden, he was the son of the late George W. McCoy and Irene Sawyer McCoy. He was the husband of Avril Davenport McCoy. Charles was employed with the Ford Motor Company where he retired after thirty two years of service. He was a member of the South Mills Ruritans Club and a retired volunteer firefighter with the South Mills Volunteer Fire Department. He served in the US Army as a National Guard.
He is survived by two sons, Larry W. McCoy of Woodville and Gary V. McCoy and wife, Stacey, of South Mills; a sister, Kathleen McCoy Batten of Clayton; two brothers, Roy Lee McCoy of South Mills and Bob McCoy and wife, Vida, of Lewisville, Texas; a sister-in-law, Carolyn McCoy of Clayton; and three grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Charles Everett McCoy Jr.; two sisters, Margarite Whitehurst and Dorothy (Dot) McCoy; and a brother Bill McCoy.
A memorial service will be held today at 3 p.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Frank Thigpen and Rev. Kip McDonald officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence. The family requested that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Trinity Methodist Church, 104 South Main Street, South Mills, NC 27976. Twiford Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, 405 E.
