Curtis Lee Brooks, 65, of 560 Okisko Road, Elizabeth City, died Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Albemarle Hospital. Born in Pasquotank County, he was the son of the late Carthel Brooks and Norma Creekmore Stanley and was the husband of Darlene Ivey Brooks. Mr. Brooks was retired from the United States Army as a SFC. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
In addition to his loving wife and best friend of forty-three years, Mr. Brooks is survived by two sisters, Dianne Upton of South Mills and Melissa Anderson of Elizabeth City; a step-sister, Peggy Bray of Elizabeth City; two step-brothers, George Stanley and James Stanley of Elizabeth City; a special brother, Don Worthley of Anchorage, Alaska; nieces and nephews, Mike Ivey, Michelle Baker, Kim Ivey-Bourne, Michael Ivey, Peyton Anderson, Lynn Weeks, Michael Upton, Devin Worthley, Nolan Worthley and Riley Worthley; and his special cat, Willee.
A graveside funeral service with military honors will take place Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Northside Road. The family will receive friend's Friday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel and at all other times at the residence. Flowers are welcomed, or memorial donations may be made to your local animal shelter. Twiford Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, is assisting the Brooks family.
