Franklin Joseph Williams, 87, of 245 Highway 343 South, Camden, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Kindred Care of Elizabeth City. Born in Pasquotank County, he was the son of the late Ralph H. Williams and Margaret Cuthrell Flowers Williams and was the husband of the late Mary Layden Williams for 61 years. Mr. Williams was a veteran of WWII, having served in the United States Navy. He later went to work as a firefighter at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and was a farmer. Mr. Williams was a member of Camden United Methodist Church and Widow's Son Lodge #75 AF & AM. He was a former Camden County Commissioner.

He is survived by a daughter, Marsha Williams Sanderlin and husband, Julian, of Camden; a brother, Fred V. Flowers of Norfolk, Va.; a sister, Peggy Flowers Edwards of Norfolk, Va.; six grandchildren, Amy Taliaferro, Trey Thompson, Betsy Hendricks, Jarrod Sanderlin, Jeff Sanderlin and Juli Twiford; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Along with his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son. A funeral service will take place Monday, May 12, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Twiford's Memorial Chapel with Pastor David Moehring officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home; immediately following the service in the lobby of the funeral home; and at other times at the residence of Marsha and Julian Sanderlin, 275 Highway 343 South, Camden. Memorial donations may be made to the Methodist Home for Children, 1041 Washington Street, Raleigh, NC 27605.
