Jimmy Mack Rogerson, 83, of Elizabeth City, died Friday, May 16, 2014 at his residence. A native of Pasquotank County, he was the son of the late Dennis Rogerson and Mary Linda Sanders Rogerson. He was the widower of Loria Estelle Simmons Rogerson. Mr. Rogerson served in the US Army in Korea from 1951-1953 where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation and the Good Conduct Medal. Jimmy served in the United States Coast Guard from 1959-1963 and the United States Coast Guard Reserve from 1972-1990. He was a Civil Service employee at the US Coast Guard at the support center.

He is survived by a daughter, Donna Rackley and husband, Michael, of Elizabeth City; and a son, Danny Rogerson and wife, Gwen, of Lakeland, Fla.; two sisters, Catherine Snyder of Elizabeth City and Faye Elliott of Hertford; four brothers, Thomas Rogerson, Ray Rogerson, and Marshall Rogerson all of Elizabeth City and Michael Rogerson of Hertford; five grandchildren, Timmy Rogerson and wife, Kerrin, Nick Rackley and wife, Reagan, Andrew Rogerson and wife, Rebeca, Amy Rackley and fiancée, Justin Godfrey, and Annie Rogerson; and one great-grandchild, Lillian Rogerson. Also surviving is a special friend, Pat Markham of Elizabeth City. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Marian Sawyer and Marilyn Rogerson. A funeral service with full military honors conducted by the VFW Post 6060 will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Richland officiating. Visitation will be today from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made to Salem Baptist Church, 1401 Salem Church Road, Elizabeth City, NC 27909 or Albemarle Hospice, 311 Cedar Street, Elizabeth City, NC.
