John Franklin Frizzell, 70, of 105 Wedgewood Boulevard, Moyock, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. Born in Kountze County, Texas, he was the son of the late Oscar Edward and Johnie Mae Joehnsen Frizzell and was the husband of Helen Katherine Smith Frizzell. Mr. Frizzell was retired from the United States Navy and had served thirteen years in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the William Clarence Jackson VFW Post 6060 and the Coinjock American Legion Post 288. Mr. Frizzell was also retired from the Currituck County Sheriff's Department as a detention officer.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Julie Frizzell Garza, Leticia Osbourne and Johnny Frizzell; three grandchildren, Joseph F. Garza, Jacob W.C. Garza and Jaylynn K. Garza; and 13 brothers and sisters. A memorial service with military honors rendered by the William Clarence Jackson VFW Post 6060 will take place Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Wade Weatherly officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the Coinjock American Legion Post 288. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Frizzell family to assist with expenses. Twiford Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, 405 E.
