Claude Havel, Jr., 76, died from complications due to renal failure on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. Claude was born on November 8, 1936 in Washington, Iowa. He graduated from Washington High School in 1955 where he lettered in football and track. Soon after, he enlisted in the United States Army and served for 2 years, completing tours of duty in Stuttgart, Germany. Claude returned home, attended Parsons College and University of Iowa (go Hawkeyes!) from 1958 to 1961. He moved to Manhattan Beach, California in 1962 where he worked in the construction trades as a glazier; concurrently, he continued his education at Occidental Business College. On October 19, 1968 he married Theresa Marie Roy. They raised two sons, Steven Miles and Curtis Douglas. Claude was fiercely proud of his sons and prided himself on being a positive influence in their lives. He was thrilled to welcome his first grandson, Declan Douglas, into the world in 2010. Claude thrived in the presence of family and friends and had a mischievous sense of humor that kept those around him on their toes. He valued his friends and his son's friends as family and cherished time spent with them. Claude is survived by his wife, two children and grandson. He is also survived by three brothers: Jim, Garry and Richard and their families. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on April 13, 2013 at Hawthorne Mortuary, 13806 Hawthorne Blvd., Hawthorne, CA. In lieu of flowers, please provide donations to Milestone Hospice Services (1500 Crenshaw Blvd. Torrance, CA 90501). Please sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits. Hawthorne Mortuary
