Dean M. Wright
Dean M. Wright, a South Bay resident since 1951, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 23rd, three weeks shy of his 93rd birthday. Dean was born to Elmer and Ruth Wright, July 18, 1920 in Dalton, Nebraska in a sod house built by his grandfather. He was the first of six children. The family moved to El Monte, CA in 1936 where Dean went to high school and met Audrey Mangis, who would become his first wife. Dean served as a Master Sergeant during WWII and was stationed in India as a radio-man. After the war, Dean returned to California and attended Berkeley and UCLA where he received his Degree in Electrical Engineering. He and Audrey were married in 1948 and moved to south Torrance in 1951 where they raised their five sons. In the late 50's, Dean and two of his brothers began Wright Brothers Manufacturing and produced parts for the Mercury and Gemini space programs. Later they began designing and manufacturing food processing equipment for Danola and Bridgeford Foods. After Audrey passed away in 1977, Dean met and married Hedda Lark of Manhattan Beach. When Hedda passed away in 2010, Dean continued to live in Manhattan Beach until his death. Dean is survived by his five sons: Craig (Dr. Heather Poe) of Woodinville, WA; Kevin (Cynthia) of Mesa, AZ; Erin of Carlsbad, CA; Brad (Melinda) of Thousand Oaks, CA; and Garrett (Melissa) of Torrance, CA. Twelve grandchildren: David, Darby, Heather, Daniel, Alexis, Julia, Lydia, Brett, Chelsea, Brigitte, Mason and Jeanette. Five great-grandchildren: Tristin, Donnie, Jordan, Forrest and Nathanael.
