Fay B. Garrett

1916 - 2014

Fay was a Torrance resident for 55 years. Born in Malvern, Arkansas, she settled in California during World War II and married her hometown sweetheart, Rand Garrett, who was stationed at Ft. MacArthur.

Fay began her career as a legal secretary, then became an elementary school teacher and reading specialist with L.A. Unified until she retired. She loved her students! Along the way she obtained two master's degrees and spent a year teaching in England as a Fulbright Exchange Teacher. She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and the Mensa Society.

After retiring, she traveled (visiting all 7 continents), gardened and taught Bible studies. She was a lifelong member of Torrance First Baptist Church.

Fay leaves behind 2 daughters - Randy Dolores and Amy Jo (Jim) St. Amour - a grandson, James Satterfield, and a brother, Jo Ed Burton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Octavia Burton, 8 siblings, and a daughter, Terry Patrice.
